Updates:
Public Memorial Service at Texas Stadium
on Saturday, March 24 in the Stadium Club (10 AM)

From www.DallasCowboys.com:

IRVING, Texas - The Dallas Cowboys will pay tribute to the late Wilford "Crazy Ray" Jones, their unofficial mascot of 44 years, with a public memorial service at 10 a.m. (CDT) Saturday, March 24 in the Stadium Club inside Texas Stadium.

Friends and fans of Crazy Ray and the Cowboys are welcome to attend Saturday's service which is open to the general public. The Texas Stadium parking lot will open at 9 a.m., and fans will be asked to enter the parking lot located at the Gate 1 parking entrance.

Admission to the Stadium Club will be accessible at Gate 10, next to the statue of Coach Tom Landry.

Ray, 76, died Saturday morning after battling various illnesses over the years. He was a beloved icon since the Cowboys' early days, cheering the franchise on in full western wear.

The Cowboys also announced Tuesday that Ray will be honored at a 2007 regular-season home game at Texas Stadium next fall. A tribute to the team's most famous fan will be presented, and the organization will honor Ray's wife Mattie in an on-field ceremony.

The Cowboys' schedule is expected to be released within the next few weeks.
  • 03/17/2007 Wilford "Crazy Ray" Jones passed away this morning.
He was surrounded by his wife,  close friends and family.  The family will have a private funeral and are planning a public memorial service.  Ray suffered a heart attack almost two weeks ago. He was suffering from congestive heart failure and was sent home on Hospice care. Ray's health continued to decline. He was moved into a Hospice care facility two days ago. He died peacefully in his sleep. He is survived by his wife Mattie of 53 years, two grandchildren, two brothers and a sister. We will post more details at a later time.  Thank you. Please pray for the family.

  • 11/14/06 The house is finished and Ray came home.  The house is beautiful!  We will add pictures soon.  Mattie is busy unpacking their things and arranging all the new furniture.  Someone gave Ray and Mattie an allowance to spend at Bellagio Interiors in Plano.  The furniture was picked out on Friday and delivered on Monday, November 13.  A big "Thank You" to the interior designer who helped Mattie make her selections and to the delivery and set-up menwho made it possible to have everything set up before Ray came home.  Read about it here.
  • 09/25/06 An anonymous car dealership owner donates a 2001 Ford Windstar to Ray and Mattie.  It is the perfect van to have an automatic lift installed.  Thank you to WFAA Channel 8's Chris Heinbaugh and Jerry Reynolds (The Jerry Reynolds Auto Advice Show) for helping coordinate everything.
  • 09/22/06 Ray and Mattie's car was found completely trashed.
  • 9/21/06 Ray and Mattie's car was stolen! Read about it here.

The remodel is coming along great! Carpet, cabinets, and even a few walls have been removed to make room for Ray's wheelchair!

  • Watch the video clips from Channel 5, Channel 8, and Channel 11.

  • August 28. A HUGE "thank you" to the volunteers who came on such short notice to move everything out. There are a few local companies that we would like to thank for donating their services:
DOOR TO DOOR STORAGE donated containers and storage during the remodel. They delivered the containers the day after we spoke with them and even came to pick them up in the pouring rain on the 28th so the construction crews could get started on time. You can visit their website at www.doortodoor.com

  • August 21, 2006 Operation Forever Free has offered to remodel Ray and Mattie's home for free! Because Ray is a disabled veteram (Korean War), he qualifies for this amazing opportunity.

  • August 9, 2006: Ray is still in the hospital, but no longer in the Stroke Unit. He is in a "regular" room receiving physical and speech therapy. He will be discharged sometime next week. The Doctor specifically said that Ray can continue to go to the Cowboys games as long as someone is with him. So, this season, look for Ray and his friend, Wayne, on the sidelines.

  • August 4, 2006: Ray was admitted to a local hospital due to a stroke. It has affected his right arm, the right side of his face, and his speech is a little slurred. He will be in the hospital for at least 2 more days while the Doctors run tests and determine the best course of treatment. Please pray for his health and for Mattie. This is a very difficult situation. That said, when we were at the hospital last night, Ray was very discouraged. I sat down next to him and reminded him that football season is coming up soon. His face lit up and he said, "The Cowboys are gonna go all the way!" I think he has the Dallas Cowboys in his blood.

Despite their popularity and fame, Ray and his beloved wife Mattie have fallen on hard times. Their failing health and financial trouble have left them in need of your support. Ray is blind now and he can't entertain anymore. His latest stroke robbed his eyesight and the use of one of his hands. He can't fold balloons or even see the smiling faces of the children that he is entertaining.

Will the fans step up and show their support and love for Crazy Ray? Will you entertain this man who has entertained you for so many years?

Please give the Jones' a donation to help them pay their bills. 100% of the money collected on this website will go directly to them. They will use your donation for living expenses and much needed repairs on their home. Remember, Ray has one leg, and is blind. Their home needs to be made handicap accessible. Will you help them? Will you entertain them for once?

Thank you and may God bless you,
Friends of Ray and Mattie.
